Mumbai, India: Popular television actor Dipika Kakar underwent a challenging 14-hour-long surgery on Tuesday for stage 2 liver cancer, her husband, Shoaib Ibrahim, confirmed via an emotional update on his Instagram Stories on Wednesday. While the surgery was successful, Dipika is currently recovering in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and experiencing “some pain.”
Shoaib apologized to concerned fans for the delay in providing an update on Tuesday night, explaining the extensive duration of the procedure. “Hi everyone, Sorry I couldn’t update you last night, it was a long surgery. She was in OT for 14 hrs. But Alhamdulillah, everything went well. Dipi is currently in the ICU,” he wrote, reassuring followers about her condition. The surgery took place at a Mumbai hospital.
The news of Dipika’s health struggle first emerged on May 27, when she shared a heartfelt note on social media revealing the shocking diagnosis. She explained that a “tennis ball-sized tumour” was discovered in her liver after she sought medical attention for stomach pain, and it was subsequently identified as “second-stage malignant (cancerous).”
In her earlier post, Dipika expressed immense resilience and positivity, stating, “It has been one of the most difficult times we have seen and experienced! I am all positive and determined to face this and walk out stronger, Inshallah! With my entire family by my side and all the love and prayers pouring in from all of you, I will sail through this too.” Fans and colleagues alike have been showering the couple with prayers and well wishes since the announcement of her diagnosis.
