Music sensation Diljit Dosanjh dedicated his show at his Dil-Luminati concert in Chandigarh in honor of D Gukesh, the youngest World Chess Champion, who achieved a remarkable feat in Indian sports history.

“Today’s show, this concert of mine, is dedicated to our boy Gukesh. Because he had already decided earlier that he wanted to become the world champion, and he made it happen,” said the singer, lauding Gukesh’s determination and historic victory at the FIDE World Chess Championship 2024 in Singapore.

The 18-year-old Grandmaster Gukesh, from Chennai, made history this week by defeating China’s reigning champion Ding Liren to win the world chess championship. After 58 moves and four exhausting hours, Gukesh won the championship with the required 7.5 points in the high-stakes 14th and final game. However, Liren’s reign came to an end when he finished with 6.5 points.

The 39-year-old record was broken with his victory; it was previously held by Garry Kasparov, who in 1985 became the youngest global chess champion at the age of 22. By winning the Candidates Tournament this year, Gukesh has already broken yet another record, becoming the youngest person to challenge for the world crown.

His victory also makes him the second Indian to win the world chess titles, joining five-time victor Viswanathan Anand. Considering his significant achievement, the Chennai-born teenager revealed, “I was dreaming of this moment for the last 10 years. I am happy that I turned my dream into reality.”
