Almost 2 months after its release, Dhurandhar by Ranveer Singh is still leading the domestic box office and creating new records that has proven to be a blockbuster. The film directed by Aditya Dhar has rewritten the history of the box office with increasing collections on a daily basis, week after week. Dhurandhar made a history in its eighth week and became the first Bollywood movie to gross ₹1000 crore in India, becoming one of only four movies ever to do so, along with South Indian hits Pushpa 2: The Rule, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion and KGF Chapter 2.
Dhurandhar had raised 2.9 crore net in India in its eighth weekend and 1.25 crore more on Republic Day. These collections, in its 53rd day in the theatres, had propelled the film to domestic gross of ₹1002 crore ( 765 crore net) to break the old record of Shah Rukh Khan in Jawan, which earned ₹760 crore in India. Interestingly, this is a milestone in the history of Dhurandhar since it is the only Bollywood movie in a club that is dominated by South Indian films.
The spy thriller has also fared well beyond the US and has made above 33 million dollars abroad, despite being banned in the Middle East. It is currently grossing almost 1300 crore worldwide as of January 28. Ranveer Singh plays the main role in the film with the support of Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal. Its massive success has raised the expectations of Dhurandhar 2 that will come out in March and end the story.
The record-breaking performance of Dhurandhar demonstrates the rising pan-India popularity of Hindi cinema and is another indication of Ranveer Singh remaining at the box office.
