Recently, Rajpal Yadav was acquitted by the Delhi High Court in a high-profile cheque-bouncing and debt case involving 9 crore. The court refused to re-imprison the actor, noting that he was cooperative and had partially paid his dues.
Yadav was previously detained in Tihar Jail, but on February 16, he was granted interim bail after meeting the initial court conditions. At the recent hearing on March 18, Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma noted that the actor had demonstrated the desire to settle the case, paying the complainant substantial payments.
The court further suspended his sentence on an interim basis until April 1 to give him more time to resolve the financial dispute. The judge made it clear that Yadav had neither absconded nor avoided legal proceedings, and that he had appeared at every court hearing, which is a good sign for a relief being granted.
The court had previously ordered the actor to pay 1.5 crores before a set deadline as a bond for the interim bail. After the complainant’s legal team, representing M/S Murli Project, confirmed that his money had been deposited successfully, the court granted him his freedom. Also, Yadav had to provide a bail bond of 11 lakh and a surety.
The case is still under judicial consideration, and the next hearing is likely to review further compliance. In the meantime, the court’s ruling provides temporary relief to the actor, as he is still trying to meet his outstanding financial obligations.
