The Delhi High Court has rejected an urgent hearing for a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking a ban on the movie Adipurush. The case was presented before Justices Tara Vitasta Ganju and Amit Mahajan, who stated there was no urgency in the matter and would be considered on June 30.
The petitioner organ organization Hindu, Sena, argued that the film contained controversial scenes affecting India’s relations with other countries, even claiming that Nepal had banned the movie. However, the bench responded that the film had already been released, rendering urgency unnecessary.
Adipurush, featuring Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan, and Kriti Sanon, was released in theaters on June 16. Since then, objections have been raised regarding certain dialogues and the portrayal of characters such as Hanuman and Ravana.
The PIL, filed by Vishnu Gupta, the National President of Hindu Sena, sought a ban on the film, alleging inaccurate depictions of Hindu gods and characters from the epic Ramayana. The petition argued that the portrayal of characters like Ravana, played by Saif Ali Khan, was detached from Indian civilization and hurt Hindu sentiments.
The petition further contended that any alteration or tampering with the images of Ram, Sita, and Hanuman would violate the fundamental rights of Hindus. It demanded that such films be allowed for a public exhibition once the filmmakers took corrective measures.
Overall, the Delhi High Court denied the urgent hearing, scheduling the matter for consideration later.
