Rajinikanth’s Coolie, which was showing its spurt in the collections over the week, has bounced back strongly thanks to the Ganesh Chaturthi festivities. Now in its third week, the action entertainer continues to captivate audiences and is gradually marching toward the coveted 300 crore mark at the domestic box office.

According to the initial estimates, Coolie earned about 2.65 crore on Day 17 (3rd Saturday), which is a sharp increase from the Day 16 earnings of 1.7 crore. The revival shows that the superstar’s appeal at the box office remains strong, even two weeks later. Sharing the regional tabulation on Friday, the film collected 1.13 crore from Tamil, 0.35 crore from Telugu, 0.20 crore from Hindi, and 0.02 crore from Kannada versions. The film continued to build on its momentum throughout the territories as it crossed the 275 crore mark at the net level in India on Saturday, and now stands at 275.85 crore in the domestic window.

Dubbed in Telugu, Hindi and Kannada, Coolie is released on August 14 in Tamil along with dubbed versions and has its strongest foothold in Tamil Nadu. On Day 17, the film’s overall occupancy was 23.68% in Tamil (2D). Audience participation increased steadily throughout the day–rising in the morning to 14.20%, in the afternoon to 23.60%, in the evening to 25.76%, with a high point of 31.17% during the night performances.

Chennai, with 373 shows and 28.75% occupancy, reaffirmed its status as Rajinikanth’s hometown. Coimbatore was followed by 141 and 18% occupancy, while Bengaluru clocked 130 shows at 15.75% turnout. Pondicherry had an occupancy of 33.75% in 27 shows, and Trichy sustained a healthy 24.25% in 44 shows.
