Director Laxman Utekar took a different path on February 14, when most filmmakers prefer to release romantic films, by bringing a story of courage, sacrifice, and valor to the big screen. His historical drama Chhaava, based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, has found a connection with the audiences. The film opened to a mammoth ₹31 crore at the box office, that too in 2025 so far, and was directed by Vicky Kaushal in the titular role. Since its release, Chhaava has managed to perform well but has also suffered a few problems on weekdays.

The film’s box office journey has been nothing short of impressive, crushing many box office records. The industry experts had predicted that the movie would have crossed ₹400 crore mark by the end of its second week. It, however, started to perform poorly on its 14th day, that’s when it fainted on Thursday. The only positive about the film was that it decreased by over 50 percent from the previous day, earning only ₹12 crore. Hence, to get the total domestic box office collection now at ₹398.25 crore, the much anticipated line of ₹400 crore is still remaining.

The film’s occupancy rate also experienced a decline, as is reported. On Thursday, Wednesday’s occupancy had fallen to 18.58 per cent while Thursday’s level stood at 34.43%. Out of the 10.56 percent morning shows and 16.96 percent afternoon shows, respectively. In the evening and night shows, the trend improved loading to 19.79% and 26.99%.

But despite this setback, Chhaava is still a strong box office contender and will rebound with the weekend coming up. The coming days would reveal if he can become India’s first ever film to get past the ₹400 crore mark for fans and trade analysts alike.
