New global box office records of the border 2 film of Sunny Deol serve to emphasize the fact that the movie is a blockbuster though its momentum is slowly dwindling. By Day 8, the movie had attained the ₹300 crore mark in the global market, becoming the top-grossing Indian film of the year to date. Border 2 has made 235 crore nett in India which equals to about 281 crore gross. The foreign markets have brought a win of 41 crore gross and the total global collection is at 323 crore.

The movie had an excellent opening week which was sustained by a powerful start, patriotism and nostalgia over the original Border. But it has started showing signs of a slow down. The collections of 8 days in India were only 11 crore, which means that the film might not be able to sustain the weekdays. This is as the trade analysts are of opinion that the second weekend may mark the last stage of good theatrical performance.

It will not be easy to recover the collections on Monday, and maintain the steady numbers throughout the week, not mentioning that new releases and audience burnout will be involved. Although Border 2 has already secured the status of a blockbuster with ease, the growth curve shows that it might not be able to reach the extraordinary lifetime figures.

To be fair, Gadar 2, starring Sunny Deol as well, earned ₹690 crore in its entire theatrical earnings across the world. Considering the existing trend, it seems that Border 2 will not be able to beat that benchmark. However, 323 crore global collection within eight days is still a huge milestone and well entrenches the movie as a commercial success.
