Mumbai: Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie are competing worldwide and also at the Indian box office. While Barbie is outperforming Oppenheimer worldwide, the latter is doing better at the Indian box office.

On the fifth day of release, Barbie earned Rs. 2.30 crores net in India and Rs. 2.5 crores net on day 4. On Sunday, it crossed Rs. 7.15 crores but collected less than half of it on Monday. The film’s total now stands at an estimated Rs. 23.45 crores net. The film broke the box office record worldwide as it grossed $26.2 million in North America on day 4th, beating Christopher Nolan’s 15-year record for the movie The Dark Knight’s.

Oppenheimer performed well on its fourth day at the box office as it earned Rs. 55.75 crores net in India. The movie earned more on the 4th day in India in all languages. The film’s total box office collection in five days stands at about Rs. 62 crores net. While Barbie broke several box office records, Oppenheimer had the biggest global opening for a biopic.

It has been reported that the movie Oppenheimer has been the biggest non-superhero Christopher Nolan opening weekend in 55 markets and the biggest opening day for his film in 33 markets. However, Christopher Nolan’s newest movie has caused quite a stir, among viewers in India especially due to its depiction of scenes involving the Bhagavad Gita, a revered Hindu scripture.

Together Barbenheimer grossed more than $511 million worldwide and $235.5 million in the US over the first weekend, reveal sources.
