When Atlee announced Baby John, the film started getting a lot of attention from both the audience and from people working in the industry. Recently, Varun Dhawan’s first look rolled in and fans went into a tizzy with the level of excitement that has been shot through the roof. That added to the expectation build, which was further boosted when Jackie Shroff donned the guise of the villain in the movie. Yet, there are more things to probe for the movie’s failure, even though people have expected a lot from it since it was released for Christmas.

The joyful holiday ensured that Baby John could open with a decent amount of 11.25 crores. However, a day after, the film earned a significant amount of money from day one, and after that, the collection fell steeply. This is surprising because even after 11 days of its release, the Varun Dhawan starrer was unable to earn ₹40 crore. Reports from the trade analyst noted that the film had collected ₹ 80 lahks on the second Saturday, that is, the 11th day, and the collection was slightly better than ₹ 55 lahks collected on the second Friday, the 10th day, but it will not have any impact on the overall business. Thus, up until now, the movie has earned ₹37.75 crore in its domestic iteration.

This poor result has resulted in some key problems for the film. A Baby John show serves as an indication that about 2500 shows have been called off in the last few days because they attract few visitors, leading to poor revenues. The action-drama, which also has Keerthy Suresh and Wamiqa Gabbi in the lead role, has begun targeting screens across the country for the second week and is steadily slipping, indicating that things will only get worse from here.

With all of the necessary components at their disposal: a brilliant director, the cast, and unprecedented pre-release publicity, Baby John couldn’t attract an audience’s attention. The weak response has led to criticism of the material contained in the picture and its potential for continued popularity after a week of its start. The Varun Dhawan-led project may find its kitty even more difficult to recover in the coming days with competition rising at the box office.
