The action thriller Baby John, starring Varun Dhawan and Keerthy Suresh seems to be already headed towards doom at the domestic BO due to a number of reasons. Undoubtedly, the film could not create the desired effect despite the lofty goals set in advance and a 160 crore budget, coupled with the negative reviews, leaving it in a very awkward position when it comes to survival. The revenue of the film began to decline steadily, and with it has come close to halting, with more recent collections unable to cross the 1 crore mark.
Expectedly, Baby John, directed by Kalees, had industry observers for the second weekend, considering that this is a crucial period for any film. However, the film did not do well, and at the box office on Saturday, the earnings were 0.75 crores, and on the 12th day, the film earned only 0.85 crores. These claims can be seen in the dismal picture at the box office and its corresponding inability to spark interest and, more importantly, bring in the money to cover costs.
For instance, the domestic box office collection of “Baby John” is only 38.50 crore. This is far away from its production cost of 160 crores. That is, the film has been able to gain its revenue of about one-quarter of the total expenditure; thus, the makers and investors involved incurred a severe loss.
Originally, when the film hit theaters, it was hoped that it would at least finish its domestic box office performance with at least 60 crores – a decidedly reasonable expectation given the blockbuster caliber of the movie. Nevertheless, at the current rate, it seems rather impossible to even achieve this goal. The movie failed to demonstrate even minimal growth on the second weekend, and the string of negative reviews may indicate the start of its exit from the theaters, which is one of the most unfortunate events of this year.
