Varun Dhawan’s high-budget Christmas release Baby John has collected Rs 32.65 crore at the domestic box office in its first week. This film was promoted extensively. But Baby John is struggling to establish its footing amid the Pushpa 2 wave going on in the country. According to a report, the film earned Rs 2.15 crore on Tuesday, and the total earnings of Baby John reached Rs 32.65 crore.

Baby John recorded double-digit earnings on its opening day, making it Varun Dhawan’s biggest opener in five years. But it is also true that from the second day onwards there was a big decline in the film’s earnings.

Taran Adarsh, a trade analyst, also discussed Baby John’s “underwhelming” first-day performance. He also emphasized that Mufasa: The Lion King and Pushpa 2, directed by Allu Arjun, were fierce rivals to the movie. Taran Adarsh wrote on X, “Baby John faced stiff competition from Pushpa 2 [in mass circuits] and Mufasa [in urban centers], which impacted its opening day biz… It’s worth noting that Pushpa 2 continues to be a mighty opponent for all films. A midweek release coinciding with a major holiday typically ensures a strong opening day… However, Baby John must sustain its momentum till Sunday to achieve a respectable extended weekend total.”

Atlee’s A for Apple Studios, Cine1 Studios, Jio Studios, and Vipin Agnihotri Films are all partners in Baby John. Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, Jackie Shroff, and Rajpal Yadav are also a part of the film.

Film critic Saibal Chatterjee wrote, “The trouble is that Baby John falls way, way short of working action movie fans up into a celebratory frenzy. Not that it does not try. But all its vim and vigor, delivered in the form of noisy, overwrought driblets over a running time of two hours and forty minutes, come to naught.”
