Veteran lady love Asha Parekh been honoured with the Dada Saheb Phalke Award 2020 award for her outstanding contribution to the Film Industry.

The announcement was made on the official Instagram account of Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival with a caption that read, “Congratulations to Asha Parekh for winning the award for Outstanding Contribution To Film Industry at Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards2022. Your hard work and perseverance have paid off. Team DPIFF wishes you good luck in your future endeavors.”

The 79-year-old actor, best known for films such as “Dil Deke Dekho”, “Kati Patang”, “Teesri Manzil”, and “Caravan”, is considered one of the most influential actresses of all time in Hindi cinema. Ashaji made her acting debut as an adult with Dil Deke Dekho (1959) opposite Shammi Kapoor. Earlier, she had started her career as a child artist with the name Baby Asha Parekh and featured in Maa (1952) and Baap Beti (1954).

Her major achievements also include being the first female chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (Censor Board) of India.
After quiting acting she strided her career as a television director with the Gujarati serial Jyoti. Under her production company, Akruti, Asha produced serials like Palash ke Phool, Baaje Payal, Kora Kagaz and Dal Mein Kaala. In 2008, she was a judge on the reality show Tyohaar Dhamaaka on 9X.

Last year, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2019 was conferred on Rajinikanth.
