20 days have passed since the release of Vikas Bahl-directed film ‘Shaitaan,’ starring Ajay Devgan and R Madhavan. Despite outperforming other films currently running in theaters, ‘Shaitaan’ has not crossed the 2 crore mark at the box office. However, it has emerged as a strong contender among the year’s initial box office releases. Conversely, ‘Article 370’ has significantly impacted, soaring high at the box office. Siddharth Malhotra’s ‘Yodha,’ released 13 days ago, failed to draw audiences to theaters.
The trailer of ‘Shaitaan,’ helmed by Vikas Bahl and featuring Ajay Devgan and R Madhavan, created a buzz with its portrayal of black magic, sorcery, hypnotism, and demonic forces. The film continues to captivate audiences, although theater-goers are reportedly disappointed due to its slow pace and lack of substance beyond the trailer. However, the film benefits significantly from the star power of its lead actors.
According to industry reports, ‘Shaitaan’ has failed to touch the 2 crore mark on its 20th day, earning only 1.55 crores. Nevertheless, it has amassed a whopping 132.5 crores over 20 days and a global collection of 189 crores. With continued success, the film is expected to surpass the 200 crore mark by the weekend.
Made on a modest budget of just 20 crores, ‘Article 370,’ directed by Yami Gautam, narrates the story of removing Article 370 from Kashmir. The film delves into the historical context and the consequent losses to the nation. Despite a small budget, it has surpassed the 100 crore mark worldwide. However, its pace slowed, earning a mere 17 lakhs on its 5th Wednesday, with a total earning of 76.46 crores.
Siddharth Malhotra’s ‘Yodha,’ based on a plane hijacking plot with thrilling action and entertaining twists, has failed to impress the box office. Although it earned 60 lakhs on its second Wednesday and around 32.28 crores, it struggles to maintain traction. Its worldwide earnings stand at around 48 crores.
