The supernatural thriller “Shaitaan,” starring Ajay Devgn, Jyotika, and R Madhavan and directed by Vikas Bahl, has made a significant impact at the Indian box office since its release on March 8. According to industry reports, the film has amassed an estimated ₹53 crore nett in its opening weekend. The movie started strong on Friday with ₹14.75 crore nett and gained momentum on Saturday, collecting ₹18.75 crore. Sunday marked a substantial increase, reaching an estimated ₹20 crore. Shaitaan maintained a 36.24% Hindi occupancy on Sunday.
Directed by Vikas Bahl and presented by Jio Studios, Devgn Films, and Panorama Studios, Shaitaan is produced by Ajay Devgn, Jyoti Deshpande, Kumar Mangat Pathak, and Abhishek Pathak. It is the Hindi adaptation of the 2023 Gujarati horror film “Vash,” originally written and directed by Krishnadev Yagnik.
Jyotika plays the role of a mother to actor Janki Bodiwala in Shaitaan, alongside Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan. Reflecting on portraying a mother on screen while being one in real life, Jyotika shared, “There are many sequences in the film that evoke motherhood, and I don’t want to reveal them, but one of them was a significant reason why I agreed to this film. Throughout, the film consistently highlights the responsibility of parents, especially with a teenage daughter, and underscores the crucial role of parents in the protective journey of their children.”
