Indore: A Garba program in Indore was canceled by the local Bajrang Dal, objecting to the intentions of the organizer. Firoz Khan, the organizer of this Garba event, said, “This event has been happening for 35 years and I have been involved in it for 25 years but such objection has never been raised before”.
This event of idol installation and Garba Raas has been organized by Shikhar Garba Mandal in Bhavarkua area of Indore for the last 35 years. Bajrang Dal workers have raised doubt on the intentions of Muslim organizer Firoz Khan to promote “love jihad” in the name of this Garba event. The local Bajrang Dal also alleged that this event is being used to promote relations between Hindu women and Muslim men and a complaint has been made to the police in this regard but no action has been taken against the organizer.
Bajrang Dal leader Tannu Sharma said “this year we got the information on time and we canceled their program. We have also submitted a complaint to the local police”. The organizer of this event, Firoz Khan, has expressed grief over the controversy. He said, “This event has been happening for 35 years.I have been involved in this for 25 years, and have been managing it for last 15 years. But this is happening for the first time”.
Indore Superintendent of Police Hrishikesh Meena said that, “We are still away from this matter, neither have we given permission to anyone to organize the program nor have we forced any event organizer to cancel their program. At present, this incident is happening due to a dispute between the local parties”.
Recently, Indore BJP district president Chintu Verma came into controversy when he instructed the organizers of Navratri celebrations to insist people to drink ‘gau- mutra’ (cow urine) before entering Garba pandals. When the matter escalated, he withdrew his steps at the behest of the state BJP leadership.
