New Delhi: In an alleged rape case, Malayalam film actor Siddique was granted temporary protection from arrest, which the Supreme Court extended on Tuesday.
His September 30 interim order, which instructed him to cooperate with the investigation and provided him with temporary protection from arrest in the case, was extended by a bench of Justices Bela M. Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma.
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, who was representing Siddique, claimed to have a sore throat and asked for more time to argue the case before the bench issued the order. Rohatgi stated at the beginning that the actor is being questioned by the investigating agency numerous times regarding his phone and laptop, which he had in 2016 but no longer has. He said the probe agency is also looking for the complainant’s passport and Aadhaar number, and Siddique has only met him once.
According to senior advocate Ranjit Kumar, who was representing Kerala Police, Siddique has been appearing before the police but is not assisting with the investigation and is providing evasive responses.
