The 71st National Film Awards on Tuesday in Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi were attended by President, Draupadi, Murmu, who gave some of the most renowned movie personalities in the country, awards. The event that formally declared the winners on 1 August 2025 was a star-studded one that brought to the focus the versatility of talent in Indian cinema.
At the climax, Malayalam legend Malayalal was given the Dadasaheb Phalke Award – the pinnacle of the Indian cinema. A lifetime achievement award, the prize has been given by the Government of India on an annual basis to individuals whose efforts have left an everlasting mark on the film industry in the country. The fact that Mohanlal accepted it was evidence of his illustrious career as well as his still being relevant on the modern screens.
The National Film Awards also highlighted the increased power of Bollywood. Shah Rukh Khan got a historic moment when he was awarded the Best Actor award because of his dazzling appearance in Jawan. He also won the honor in partnership with newcomer Vikrant Massey who won the same accolade on his work in 12 th in a row film- 12th Fail. Even Rani Mukerji came in to receive the Best Actress award as the result of the power performance in her role in Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway. Her victory marked a new dawn to the National Film Awards and the category of the Best Actress entered the modern times of the existence after a long sleep.
The very 2023 awards were also postponed, taking two years to be disrupted by the pandemic. However, the success of the ceremony is because of the resilience of the film industry that has still managed to survive despite the world challenges. When the industry looks back, the 71st National film awards will be remembered as a festival of perseverance, art and everlasting strength of story telling in India.
