The Election Commission of India has officially announced its first day of vote counting as the Bihar Assembly election is still going on. Maheshwar Hazari, the leader of Janata Dal United (JDU), has emerged a decisive and uncontested winner over the Kalyanpur constituency making him the first established winner in the 2025 Bihar polls.

Hazari has won by an outstanding majority of more than 38,000 votes, which showed that he had decent local followings, and led the tally throughout the final stages of counting. He overcame CPIM(L) Liberation party candidate Ranjeet Kumar Ram who failed to bridge the gap which was increasing with counting.

This victory preconditions the JDU, which is also running against the elections in the NDA alliance. The strong performance by Hazari is being viewed as an encouraging beginning of the party this time around given that the state will get the results of the key constituencies that will dictate the general political scenario.

The observers of local politics say that Hazari did well because of the combination of several factors, such as good grassroots presence, effective management at the booth level, and the efforts of the JDU to hold its vote bank in the region together. His victory will also raise the morale among the party members since more votes are trickling in.

In the meantime, the tallying exercise is still going on in the 243 Assembly seats of Bihar, and early indicators pointed to the NDA defeating the opposition in some seats. Nevertheless, it will be evident only when all the rounds are over, and the Election Commission officially announces the results.

In the meantime, the victory of Maheshwar Hazari is the first milestone of the Bihar 2025 Assembly election results which gives a good start to the JDU in the high stakes political battle.
