On the basis of the Election Commission of India data at 12 PM, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on course for a historic arrival in Delhi after 27 years and is leading in 46 constituencies. Early trends registered a brief surge for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which it trails by a large margin, with a sure shot lead in just 24 seats, less than the majority mark of 36.

The process of vote counting for Delhi Assembly Elections 2025 began at 8 AM on February 8, when the BJP and AAP stare at a high stakes battle over the capital. All seats for 70 assembly in the polls on February 5 were won by elections in favour of BJP, and initial trends were that of a strong push up for the Rahul Gandhi-led party.

AAP Tries To Comeback, But BJP Maintains Lead

Instead, the BJP quickly moved ahead early and held onto its dominance of the vote count as postal ballots were added together by the Election Commission. AAP tried to close the gap, but it was far behind from the BJP which widened its lead. BJP made good ground by midday and was firmly in its sights of 46 seats, which it needed to cement the ruling party.

If BJP sustains this lead, it will be a big political shift in Delhi as it will eliminate the ten year rule of AAP in the state. Analysts cite anti incumbency, governance issues and BJP’s aggressive campaign as the reasons behind the party’s rise.

Only the final results will determine if BJP builds up a topsy-turvy picture, can win a clear majority, or there could be a coalitional scenario. This high-stakes electoral battle will be followed closely as more occurs.
