US Election Results 2024: The US presidential race is a toss-up between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump won the North Carolina, the first crucial swing state of the night, according to the projections. The results for the seven battleground states would effectively determine who will become the next American president. Trump also leads with 211 electoral votes, while Democrat Kamala Harris trails with 145 votes. 270 electoral votes are required to win the presidential elections. Voting has come to an end in six of the seven battleground states.
In his campaign rhetoric, Trump has branded India a “very big [trade] abuser” — which suggests that he could renew the trade tensions of his first term, and impose higher tariffs on more than $75 billion worth of Indian exports to the US.
The counting of ballots is underway in the remaining counties. Trump appears to be heading towards the presidency as he has also won swing states in North Carolina and leading in others, but Harris, however, could still defeat him even if she falls short in these two states, with exactly 270 electoral college votes. Notably, by winning Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, she could achieve a razor-thin margin of victory.

Over 82 million people in the country took advantage of early voting to cast their ballots. Of the seven swing states, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, known as part of the Rust Belt, have been traditionally the strongholds of the Democratic Party. The four swing states of Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina are called Sun Belt with a total electoral college vote of 49. Currently, Harris is ahead with 68.4 per cent of the votes counted in Pennsylvania, while Trump is cruising ahead in Georgia.
