New Delhi: The voting for phase 6 of the general elections is being conducted in 58 constituencies in six states and two Union Territories, with seven seats in Delhi. Earlier today at 1 pm, voter turn out had been estimated at 39.13%, as per the statistics provided in the Voter Turnout App released by the Election Commission of India. And in this phase of the elections 889 candidates are participating and are vying for the positions.
In order to enhance the polling procedure, the Election Commission has made 12 other documents available as prescribed documents for poll identification apart from Voter ID cards. Maintaining the transparency of the election circuit, all the liquor shops in the polling regions, including Delhi, Faridabad, and Gurugram, have been shut down because today was a dry day. These restrictions must remain in force until 6 in the evening today.
Notable to a gun battle in Phase 6, senior BJP leader and Jhargram candidate Pranat Tudu alleged that his motorcycle convoy was ambushed at Garbeta of West Midnapore district. Tudu was accompanied by security personnel who were attacked and wounded; hence, they had to rush to the hospital. The attack took place when Tudu was heading to Garbeta to meet people who alleged that BJP agents were being locked out of some polling booths.
Furthermore, the Congress and the Samajwadi Party blamed each other on Saturday for conspiring against the SP’s Lok Sabha Candidate, Lalji Verma, accusing the BJP of putting the latter under house arrest. There are voting activities being undertaken across Ambedkar Nagar as the country conducts the sixth phase of the elections. Efforts made to try to get a comment from the district administration on these claims have not yielded any fruit.
SP’s Ambedkar Nagar District president, Arvind Kumar Singh, has raised allegations that the district administration is exerting undue pressure for the election by confining Verma to her house arrest. Singh has called on the three arms of the Election Commission to act proactively and take note of the situation in order to promote free and fair elections.
