New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met L K Advani at the veteran BJP leader’s residence here on Friday, before staking claim to form the next government at the Centre for a third consecutive term. Modi visited Advani soon after being chosen as the leader of the NDA parliamentary party, leader of the BJP parliamentary party and leader of the BJP in the Lok Sabha.
He was later scheduled to go to the Rashtrapati Bhawan to call on President Droupadi Murmu for staking claim to form the government. While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has got 240 seats, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has got 293 seats and enjoys majority in the 543-member Lok Sabha.
Days after Lok Sabha results were announced, hectic discussions are underway for Narendra Modi’s anticipated third term. The newly elected members of the BJP-led NDA are scheduled to meet today to elect Narendra Modi as their leader (prime minister), paving the way for him to take oath as prime minister for a third term.
After Modi’s election as the NDA leader, MPs and the senior members of the NDA, including Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu, are likely to join Modi for a meeting with the President to present her the list of MPs supporting him and stake claim to form the government.
Senior BJP leaders, including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and J P Nadda, have also been holding deliberations with allies to work out an amicable formula for their share of representation in the new government, which will critically depend on them for survival.
Modi earlier submitted his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu and is set to take oath for a third consecutive term, likely on Sunday, after NDA coalition partners assure their support.
