Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday used the BJP’s popular slogan ‘Ek Hain To Safe Hai’ as the Mahayuti comprising BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP under the leadership of Ajit Pawar is on the verge of forming the government in Maharashtra assembly polls.
Former minister and a prominent political personality in the state Fadnavis posted on X, which is now called Twitter, “Ek Hain To Safe Hain. As the state Government has announced, “Modi Hai To Mumkin Hai,” the message given by the electoral alliance implies harmony and support for the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India.
By 12:45 pm on the day of the election result announcement, according to the EC data, BJP had got the lead in 125 seats, Shiv Sena in 55, and NCP in 38. This projected victory of the ruling Mahayuti coalition strengthened the position of the alliance. Fadnavis, who was leading from the Nagpur South West constituency by a margin of over 19 thousand votes, is still influential in the Maharashtra BJP.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke with both the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, and the latter’s Deputy Devendra Fadnavis to wish them a successful ahead in the expected electoral outcomes. The result comes as a big relief to Fadnavis, especially after his dramatic bid to quit as Deputy Chief Minister over BJP’s poor show in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
Fadnavis, who came into the limelight during his term as the youngest mayor of Nagpur, became the state’s Chief Minister when the BJP was the largest party with 122 seats in the 2019 assembly polls. But, when the Shiv Sena declined to join the coalition without a share in the Chief Minister’s post, Fadnavis had formed a government for just a day with Ajit Pawar’s NCP. It dissolved within three days, and Fadnavis then became the Leader of the opposition in the Maharashtra legislature.
