Bringing a substantial boost for the opposition forces, the INDIA bloc won at least four seats with leads in six other constituencies, while the by-elections to 13 assembly seats in seven states were held on July 13. The rival Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led only in two constituencies.
INDIA Bloc in Bypoll Results
In the Himachal Pradesh state, the Congress party’s candidate fared well. While Kamlesh Thakur from the Dehra assembly segment won successfully, she is the wife of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. In Nalagarh, Hardeep Singh Bawa of Congress was ahead, and BJP’s head in Hamirpur was Ashish Sharma. The AAP, as a member of the INDIA bloc, got an absolute victory in Punjab’s Jalandhar West, with Mohinder Bhagat emerging winner against Sheetal Angural of BJP with more than 37,000 votes.
TMC Leads in West Bengal Bypoll Results
In West Bengal, Trinamool Congress, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, secured victories in two assembly seats: Raiganj and Bagda are two such places. The party also emerged victorious in two other constituencies, namely, Maniktala and Ranaghat Dakshin, as portrayed by ECI data.
In the Rupauli seat of Bihar, independent candidate Shankar Singh was leading, while from the JD (U) Kaladhar Mandal was also putting up stiff competition. The seat, earlier represented by Bima Bharti, showed a change of sides after the latter resigned from JD(U) to join RJD.
BJP’s Position in Bypoll
The BJP continued to have leads in certain niches, like the constituency of Hamirpur from the state of Himachal Pradesh and the constituency of Amarwara from the state of Madhya Pradesh. These bypoll results are considered to be essential for the BJP, after which it faced some problems after failing to get a post of a conclusive majority in the recent elections, unlike the previous ones in which the BJP was successfully able to achieve the majority all by its own or at least in collaboration with some other party.
The outcomes were marked by evolving political relations, and the CPF stressed the BJP’s ability to live in alliances and regional rivalries. Due to the centrality of coalition politics, these bypoll results signify the nature of forthcoming electoral planning and alignment in the Indian political system.
