Monday, the police reported that six teachers have been arrested and two minor students have been detained over the case on the leaking of the SSLC (Class 10) preparatory examination question papers in Karnataka. The arrests follow the findings by the authorities of a well-organized attempt to share the examination papers illegally by use of social media.
Police claimed that the availability of the leaked question papers had been publicly announced by the students on the social networks. Individuals with interest were requested to contact them through the use of private messages. The SSLC question papers were exchanged at an apparently high cost of 200-500 or more and later shared in exchange of money. This criminal venture drew the attention of the law enforcement agents when people noticed something suspicious online.
The detained teachers are based in Kalaburagi, Tumakuru and Ramanagara and one of the headmasters. The police believe that these teachers could have misused their access to the official school log in system that is usually obtained to get examination papers through the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB). These papers are electronically sent by the board to schools, and access is available to the headmasters and senior teachers. Law enforcement is looking into the possibility that this access can have been used to leak the papers before the exam.
The Cyber Crime Police of Bengaluru North Division are spearheading the enquiry that centers on the involvement of the arrested teachers and students, and the likelihood of having a bigger network that was involved in the leak. Action was taken by the police after a complaint made by the examination authorities on January 6 who had been informed regarding the leaks that were going round social media.
The case has caused the question to wonder the safety of examination systems and how insiders may abuse digital access. Police have promised that this is going to be further investigated to ensure that all the individuals involved are also identified so as to avoid such incidents in the future. The trend highlights the growing significance of cybercrime departments in addressing educational fraud and exam integrity.
