Announcements were made for the rescheduled dates of NEET UG 2024, and the results were revised on Friday, July 26th, changing the overall prospects for the candidates. For more, it was euphoria or letdown as the number of toppers came down drastically from 61 to 17. This is especially concerning in the sphere of medical entrance examinations because it rarely happens to observe such changes in rankings.
As per the National Testing Agency (NTA), 24,06,079 candidates registered for the exam, 23,33,162 students appeared for the exam, and 13,15,853 passed it. The change in scores arose from a Supreme Court order that required the NTA to follow the IIT Delhi suggestion on a divisive Physical Sciences question on the NEET UG test.
Impact of NEET UG Revised Results
Subsequently, due to a ruling from the Supreme Court, the NTA was asked to reconsider the results based on the recommendation of an expert panel consisting of IIT Delhi, where it came to light that a particular Physics question had only one right answer while many students had been marked right due to the belief that this question had two right answers. Thus, 44 candidates who were categorized among the toppers lost 4-5 marks at this stage, and thus, the number of the toppers decreased.
Out of the new 17 states among the toppers and having toppers with a score of 720, Rajasthan is on top with the most toppers with 4. While Delhi and Uttar Pradesh got two positions at the top, other states with successful students include Bihar, Punjab, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Chandigarh, with one each.
Six candidates attained 716, and 77 candidates attaining a score of 715 were identified as among the top 100 candidates. As for the girls, there are 20 of them on the list, and 4 are perfect scorers, with a result of 720. These are Prachita, who belongs to Rajasthan; Iram Quazi, who is also from Rajasthan; Palansha Agarwal, from Maharashtra; and Mane Neha Kuldeep, who is also from Maharashtra.
