If the existing scores are not enough to reach a conclusion, then the National Testing Agency (NTA) has added a new rule to break the tie in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET UG 2025) scores.
“If any relationship between the scores of candidates remains unresolved following the existing seven-point method, an independent expert committee will provide guidance and resolve it through a random process.” This information was given by NTA in the NEET UG Information Bulletin.
NEET UG 2025 tie-breaking rules
The following formula will be used to assess inter-se merit if two or more applicants receive identical marks or percentile scores on the NEET UG 2025:
- Preference will be given to the candidate obtaining higher marks/percentage scores in Biology (Botany and Zoology) in the All India Rank (AIR) list.
- The candidate who obtains a higher marks/percentile score in Chemistry, followed by
- The candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile scores in Physics, followed by
- The candidate with a lower ratio of the number of wrong answers and the number of correct answers attempted by the candidates in all subjects in the test will be followed.
- Candidates with a low ratio of the number of wrong answers attempted to the number of correct answers in Biology (Botany and Zoology).
- Candidates in Chemistry who have a low ratio of the number of wrong answers attempted to the number of correct answers.
- The candidate who attempts fewer wrong answers and more right answers in physics.
NTA will use a random procedure under the direction of an impartial expert committee to settle the tie if these seven requirements are met and it still exists. But this is not the only modification to NEET UG 2025. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has made the decision to resume using the pre-COVID pattern starting in 2025.
This implies that there will be two additional notable changes to the examination in comparison to the previous year: there will be fewer questions and less time to complete the test.
Temporarily included during the COVID-19 pandemic, optional questions will no longer be applicable. There will be 90 biology (botany + zoology) questions and 45 physics and chemistry questions on the NEET UG 2025 exam. The test will last for 180 minutes.
NEET UG 2025 online registration is now open at neet.nta.nic.in and will end on March 7 at 11:50 p.m. On May 4, the test will be administered offline in a single shift from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm utilizing OMR sheets.
