New Delhi: The Supreme Court began the hearing for the new batch of petitions on Monday regarding the NEET UG 2024 exam. The following concerns the petitions of irregularities and appeals requesting a re-sit due to the alleged leakage of examination papers. D Y Chandrachud is handling 38 NEET-UG cases with convenience along with Justice J B Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Misra, reports state.
The Central government and the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the NEET, recently presented their cases to the Supreme Court of India regarding scrapping NEET. They argued that cancellation of the exam was going to harm lakhs of clean-hearted students and demanded concrete proof of a breach of policy.
NEET UG 2024 was conducted On 5 May at several examination centers in India, and surprisingly, results were declared on 4 June. The NTA long pattern tests fully rewarded several students, eventually leading to the achievement of 67 top ranks in the medical entrance test this year.
This led to most of the students and some organizations demanding for a re-test to be conducted by the NTA, citing bias in the marking system. Some of the students also alleged leaks in some papers in different centers and the belie that produces high scorers from particular geographical areas or centers.
It emerged on June 13 that the Centre and NTA told the court that they had withdrawn grace marks given to 1,563 candidates. These candidates were provided an option to take a re-test, or else they lost the benefit of extra time awarded to them for the examination. The Supreme Court requested the petitioners to provide proof that any leak was systematic enough to affect every examination.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that the paper leak was restricted to a particular place and action had already been taken, with arrests made.
