New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear a batch of pleas related to the National Eligibility cum Entrance Exam Test (NEET) UG examination today on Monday. According to the cause list for July 8 uploaded on the court’s website, the apex court shall hear the pleas regarding the irregularities that occurred in this year’s NEET UG 2024 examination. It can also decide if the medical exam should be reconducted amid paper leak accusations.

A bench comprising of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud along with Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra shall hear the set of 38 petitions concerning the NEET-UG exam.

In a recent update, the Central government and the NTA, the nodal agency responsible for conducting the test informed the court that scrapping the exam would be ‘seriously jeopardize’. Lakhs of students have taken the exam and therefore, scrapping the exam in the absence of any proof of large-scale breach of confidentiality would make it ‘counterproductive’.

For the unversed, NEET UG 2024 exam was conducted on May 5 and the results were declared on June 4. NTA awarded full marks to dozens of students when the result was declared ten days ahead of the scheduled date. This year, there were 67 toppers of the exam. This raised protests and echoes of a Re-NEET among students and organizations alleging irregularities in the marking system of the NTA.
