Patna: The CBI team is expected to visit Patna on Monday and may take those arrested in the NEET-UG paper leak case to Delhi for questioning, officials said. The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of the Bihar Police has arrested 18 people in connection with the case so far, they said.

Thousands of students across the country have been protesting for weeks against the NEET-UG examination, raising allegations of irregulirities in the test. Students alleged paper leaks, inflated scores and arbitrary grace marks, which resulted to 67 students topping the examination this year.

67 students scored a perfect 720/720 score in the NEET-UG exam, majority of whom were from a single centre in Faridabad. The Bihar police also discovered evidence pointing to a NEET paper leak in the state, sparking a political row

The NTA, which conducted the NEET-UG exams, is facing criticism over alleged irregularities in the exams. This resulted in several protests across the country, with protestors and political parties demanding to disband the NTA. An unprecedented 67 candidates achieved a perfect score of 720 marks out of 720, which added to the concerns.

Of the 1,563 candidates eligible to appear for the re-exam of the undergraduate National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG), only 813 (approximately 52%) took it on Sunday. Another 750 candidates (approximately 48%) remained absent. The three-and-a-half hour long exam was conducted across seven centres in the States of Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Meghalaya, and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

The 1,563 candidates eligible to appear for the re-test directed by the Supreme Court had been given an opportunity to sit for the re-exam after the top court scrapped their grace marks. At least 67 candidates had obtained 720/720, after grace marks were doled out by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in a non-transparent manner earlier this month.
