NCERT syllabus modifications and grace marks to cover for lost time in examination centers are some factors that have facilitated the higher results in this year’s NEET, as clear to the National Testing Agency (NTA) officials. This information was shared on Thursday, two days after the declaration of the NEET-UG 2024 results, most of which depicted many students scoring high, of which 67 students secured the tied all-India rank.

It would be relevant to state that since the NTA came out with the NEET-UG examination results, which helped decide admission to medical colleges, students and parents have raised many objections. Some issues found significant with this score include the high scores compared to the previous year, or even more significant is the reason that 67 students share the same score, and most importantly, the new record with six of them from the same examination center in Haryana.

During the social media fiasco, students engulfed various platforms demanding an explanation for the normalization criteria of NEET results and the number of centers that have applied the procedure. Multiple theories have emerged because of the current scenario. All the students want is to know the truth. When approached by NTA officials to understand the situation and its preciseness, the officials, in their discussion with HT, pointed out four points that led to the current state.

This helped put some pressure on NTA Students, and some High Courts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Chhattisgarh raised issues relating to time management during examinations. Consequently, a committee was formed to launch an investigation to ensure that such rumors were checked.
