New Delhi: As air quality remains dangerously high in Delhi, Delhi Directorate of Education has directed schools, both government and private schools, to move from hybrid to completely online classes for students up to Class V. The latest directive issued today comes merely a day after strict anti-pollution curbs were announced to tackle the worsening air pollution crisis in Delhi.
Earlier on Saturday, DDE had allowed all government, government-aided and unaided recognised schools to function in hybrid mode. Under this mode, the schools shall remain open and the choice to attend classes online or offline is left for the students and their guardians to decide.
Meanwhile, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has reprimanded the DDA for repeated negligence in the maintenance of roads under its jurisdiction. The Commission warned officials to immediately improve pollution control and road maintenance.
The CAQM’s action follows inspections that revealed irregularities such as high levels of road dust, garbage accumulation, and open burning. These inspections were conducted as part of Operation Clean Air, a drive aimed at reducing pollution caused by road dust.
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) stated that the deficiencies found during the inspections highlight the DDA’s repeated negligence in the maintenance of the roads concerned. The Commission directed that the DDA must implement timely and consistent dust control measures by enhancing its operational efficiency.
The pollution crisis in Delhi has forced Singapore High Commission in India to issue an advisory for its nationals residing in Delhi-NCR, asking them to “pay heed” to the instructions regarding staying indoors and wearing masks when stepping out.
