New Delhi: The Centre has filed an affidavit before the Supreme Court stating that it does not consider it necessary to conduct NEET-UG 2024 retest since there has been no material to show large-scale paper leaks and other malpractices in conducting the examination. The Union Ministry of Education assured that cancelling the entire exam is unfair to the many honest candidates who sit for the NEET-UG 2024 examination in earnest.
The affidavit submitted by the government said, “It will not be logical not to declare results of the entire examination conducted on a pan India basis even if there are contended to be large scale breach of confidentiality in a pan India examination.” This perspective reflects the government’s stand that there is no substantial evidence to support such an extreme call.
Also, the Union government has called on the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate further the alleged practices of fraud connected to the exam. The body that overs the administration of NEET-UG through which candidates are offered admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in the government and private institutions, the National Testing Agency or NTA, has faced criticisms occasioned by paper leakages, among other fraud activities. These allegations have led to many protests and political unrest.
During the hearing of the petition on June 11, which sought an order to conduct exams again, the Supreme Court raised many questions about the integrity of NEET-UG and asked for replies from the Centre and NTA. However, there were these arguments that the court rejected in order not to stop the counselling process for successful candidates. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud is, therefore, likely to take the following petitions on the previous date of July 8, with the applicants seeking different reliefs ranging from a re-test to a proper probe into the alleged malpractices.
Furthering in the stir, more than 50 successful NEET-UG aspirants of Gujarat are knocking at the Supreme Court by seeking an order that does not allow the Centre and the NTA to scrap the exam.
