NEW DELHI — The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on March 27, 2026, officially announced a comprehensive alternative assessment scheme for Class 12 students studying across the West Asian countries. The announcement aims to ensure the academic continuity for thousands of students whose final board examinations were cancelled or disrupted due to the regional stability.
CBSE notification comes after the examinations were cancelled between March 16 and April 10, 2026, in Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, UAE, and Saudi Arabia. While the Board successfully conducted exams for 27 subjects (17 academic and 10 skill-based) before February 28, the “prevailing extraordinary circumstances”—linked to escalating regional tensions—rendered the completion of the remaining schedule infeasible.
For subjects carrying 70 or 80 marks for theory — such as Mathematics, English, History, and Biology — schools are required to submit scores from three internal assessments: the quarterly exam, the half-yearly exam, and the pre-board exam. The highest score among these will be considered for the final result.
The Evaluation Framework
The new assessment policy is designed to be “objective, fair, and transparent,” categorizing students based on the number of papers they were able to complete:
- Completed Exams: For subjects where students appeared in the physical board exams, the results will be based on their actual performance.
- Theory Assessment (70/80 Marks): For subjects that were cancelled, schools will submit scores from three internal benchmarks: quarterly exams, half-yearly exams, and pre-board examinations. The Board will consider the highest score among these three for the final result.+1
- Theory Assessment (30/50/60 Marks): In subjects with lower theory weightage, marks will be derived solely from the final pre-board examination.
- Practical & Internal Assessment: Since these components were completed and uploaded by schools earlier in the year, those marks will remain unchanged.
