Prime Minister Narendra Modi was seen touching the feet of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader before his speech at a public rally in Ghonda for the Delhi Assembly elections. This happened when Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva introduced the party’s candidates to the Prime Minister. The candidates greeted Modi, many of whom bowed and touched his feet.

Om Prakash Sharma, the BJP’s candidate for Vishwas Nagar, bent to touch Modi’s feet after Negi but was stopped in the middle. PM Modi has already shown his appreciation by touching the feet of people who touched him during ceremonies.

Who is Ravinder Singh Negi, BJP’s Patparganj candidate?

On a BJP ticket, Negi is running for the Patparganj seat against AAP UPSC coach Avadh Ojha “sir.” AAP leader Manish Sisodia has been contesting from Jangpura, but he has won the seat three times since 2013. Currently, Negi represents Vinod Nagar, a district in the Patparganj constituency, as an MCD councillor.

Negi became controversial after a video surfaced on social media in which he was seen asking a shop owner to change the name of his dairy to show that it is run by a Muslim. In another video, he was also seen asking Hindu street vendors to put saffron flags on their vehicles.

In order to show respect for Hindu beliefs, he also asked butcher shops to close before festivals. In January 2025 and October 2024, these videos were released. Negi is not the first person to try for the seat. He was defeated by Manish Sisodia in 2020 by a mere 2 percent. He won the Vinod Nagar seat in the 2022 Delhi MCD elections by 2,311 votes over the AAP candidate.
