AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday dubbed Ramesh Bidhuri as BJP’s chief ministerial candidate for the forthcoming Delhi Assembly poll and flung a challenge for a public debate to him. Addressing the media at a press conference, Kejriwal congratulated Bidhuri, saying that the BJP will announce the candidate within a day or two.
“We are getting running messages that Ramesh Bidhuri will soon be named BJP’s CM candidate.” Before that happens, allow me to congratulate him,’’ Kejriwal said. He also condemned Bidhuri’s performance as an MP and asked whether the latter has done anything for Delhi’s growth. “What development work has Ramesh Bidhuri been engaged in as a member of Delhi’s parliament? What does this man want others to see about the city?” Kejriwal asked.
Instead of a secretive appraisal of the candidates, Kejriwal demanded a debate between the BJP and AAP’s chief ministerial contenders. “Once his name is officially announced, there should be a face-off between the CM candidates of BJP and AAP before the people of Delhi,” he stated, adding that the people of the state should see the vision and performance of their leaders.
On the other hand, the BJP Central Election Committee (CEC) held a major meeting on Friday to decide the candidates for the remaining seats in Delhi. The meeting was organized at the BJP headquarters and was addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and other key Delhi BJP leaders.
Sources informed a news agency that the meeting essentially focused on the decision-making for the remaining undecided seats. Delhi went to polls on February 7, and the AAP stepped up its campaigning, while the BJP has also not been far behind in amping up its campaigning.
