The first session of the newly constituted Delhi Assembly began on Monday. Rekha Gupta, the chief minister of Delhi, and her six cabinet members were sworn in as members of the House of Representatives.
Manjinder Singh Sirsa (BJP) in Punjabi, Sanjeev Jha (AAP) in Maithili, and Kapil Mishra (BJP), newly elected MLAs, took their oaths in Sanskrit. Before the session started, Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena delivered the oath to BJP MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely, who was sworn in as the pro tem speaker at the Raj Niwas.

The oath was taken by Gupta first, then by her six Cabinet ministers. After this, the remaining MLAs were sworn in. Members of parliament sang Vande Mataram to start the proceedings. Virendra Sachdeva, the head of the Delhi BJP, watched the session from the Speaker’s gallery.
Later in the day, there will be an election to choose a new Speaker, and Vijender Gupta, a BJP MLA, is most likely to be chosen.
CAG reports to be tabled tomorrow
The Delhi Assembly bulletin states that the Comptroller and Auditor General’s (CAG) findings would be tabled after Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena’s speech on February 25. The assembly will open the floor for a motion of gratitude over the LG’s speech later that day.
“The most important thing is going to come. We said that we should put the CAG report on the House table in the first session. This is people’s hard-earned money, which the previous government misused. They will have to account for each penny before the people,” the chief minister had said.
