HRTC authorities on Friday said on the basis of one complaint that the patrolling team of HRTC arrested two persons involved in the vandalisation of the HRTC bus earlier in the wee hours on Tuesday. On Tuesday, the attack took place in Kharar in Mohali district in Punjab when the attackers stopped an overcrowded Chandigarh-Hamirpur bus, got out in a car and assaulted the vehicle’s windows with sticks and rods. The driver and conductor were almost stunned when the attack suddenly occurred; the passengers hid under their seats in fear. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The official statements said the assailants covered the number plate on their car with paper to conceal their identity. This added to the swift action taken by the Himachal Pradesh and Punjab authorities. After discussions with senior policemen from Shimla, Punjab’s Special Director General of Police decided to lodge an FIR.
Soon, Punjab Police arrested Gagandeep Singh from Muktsar Sahib and Hardeep Singh from Ropar in connection with the attack. The vehicle in the crime was also recovered. In this lead, the officials of HRTC have asked the passengers to keep their vigil and inform them if any suspicious activities are spotted for the safety of passengers. Once they were said, the Punjab Police also assured the Punjab Police of total security for vehicles and travellers travelling between Himachal and Punjab.
It was not a one-off. In Sirhind, miscreants pelted stones at an HRTC bus after an argument over a tourist charge on Monday. In another upsetting occurrence, the Jalandhar-Manali bus driver and the conductor were threatened when they tried to insist on the poster, after which posters of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale were forced to stick onto the jumbo bus.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu addressed the issue in the state assembly, saying that he has spoken to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who has promised that stern action will be taken against the culprits to avert a recurrence of such things.
