Unnao: In a shocking incident from the Bhadevara village in the Bihar Thana area of Unnao, a heart-wrenching event has come to light. A mother administered insecticide-laced water to her three children before consuming it herself. Unfortunately, the woman succumbed to the poisoning, while the three children are now battling for their lives at Kanpur Health Center. This tragic incident unfolded on Thursday morning around 9:00 AM.
Upon hearing the children’s cries and noticing signs of distress, a neighboring youth rushed to the scene during the vomiting and crying. He immediately contacted the woman’s husband, who was away for work. The police were promptly informed, and all four individuals were rushed to the district hospital, where the woman was pronounced dead by the attending doctors.
Jagmohan Kuriyal, a resident of Bhadeura village in the Bihar Thana area of Beghapur tehsil, is engaged in agriculture and labor. His wife, Ketaki (33), had been suffering from a mental illness for the past two years. On Thursday morning at around 7:30 AM, Jagmohan went to his fields with his elderly mother Dhunnan. Meanwhile, at home, Ketaki and their three children—daughter Mahak (9), son Aryan (6), and daughter Manvi (3)—were present. Around 9:00 AM, Ketaki retrieved a pesticide (sulfas) used for wheat from the house, mixed it with water, and administered it first to Mahak, then to Manvi, and finally to Aryan, before consuming it herself. Shortly thereafter, the children’s condition deteriorated.
The tragic incident highlights the challenges faced by families dealing with mental health issues. Ketaki’s ongoing treatment and the struggles faced by the family underline the importance of mental health awareness and support systems. As the police conduct their investigation, this heart-wrenching event serves as a somber reminder of the complexities surrounding mental health and the need for societal empathy and understanding. The authorities are expected to release further details as the investigation progresses.
