A worker of West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) was killed and two others injured in a violent attack at the inauguration of a road at Kaliachak in West Bengal’s Malda district on Tuesday. The event has caused controversy and scandal, revealing internal conflicts in the ruling party.
As per the police, the body of the person, Hasa Sheikh, was found lifeless with extreme injuries, which led to his death on the scene. The attack also severely injured TMC’s local unit chief Bakul Sheikh and his brother Esaruddin Sheikh; they both received serious multiple bullet and stab injuries and were taken to the hospital. They are both admitted to a local hospital to receive their respective treatments.
As you watch a video that has since gone viral on social media, the attackers are accused of severely beating Hasa Sheikh’s head while he was unconscious on the ground. Such gruesome images have caused The public to get angry demanding that something be done about the culprits.
The attack was also claimed to have occurred when Bakul Sheik opened the newly constructed road. There were gunshots, and an investigation is already ongoing,” a police officer said who did not wish to be named. He also disclosed that one person has been arrested in connection with the incident.
When he was being taken to the hospital, Esaruddin Sheikh, a former panchayat head, accused local party worker Zakir Sheikh and his group of the attack. “Zakir Sheikh and his men are responsible for this,” he angrily said, centerX. He said the incident was not a result of outsiders but rather local political rivalry.
Regarding the authorities’ motivation for the attack, the motive has not yet been established, but it is believed that it might be due to factionalism within the TMC. Police have said they are conducting a detailed investigation and will prosecute those involved.
This violent episode shows that political violence is gradually becoming more rife in West Bengal. Thus, there is a need for the political parties to employ adequate security measures for their activities.
