Three of the police officers based in the Varthur police station in Bengaluru have been suspended on allegations of brutally assaulting a 34-year-old domestic help in his police station on allegations of stealing. The suspended officers have been listed to include Sanjay Rathod, Santosh Kudari and Archana and they all belonged to the same police outfit.
As officials indicated, the disciplinary measure was taken after an investigation by Priyadarshini, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Marathahalli Division. Her report was given by the ACP on Tuesday and the suspension orders were made on Wednesday.
The case took place on October 30, when a woman reported to the Varthur police station that her domestic help, Sundari Bibi had stolen a diamond ring belonging to her and she was a West Bengali native. According to the complaint, police sent a Non-Cognizable Report (NCR). After this, the complainant took Bibi to the police station to be interrogated who had been working with him during the past three months.
Sundari had come to the station along with her husband, but was supposedly arrested and beaten up by the police officers in the first floor of the station. The rape was allegedly on until one of the social activists came and ordered her out, as they questioned the actions of the officers.
Upon release, Sundari was taken to Bowring Hospital where she was medically examined and a Medico-Legal Case (MLC) registered when physicians confirmed she had been injured. The event caused anger and a cry of outcry to hold the responsible officers accountable and to take tough measures against them.
Top officials affirmed that the investigation established that there was enough misconduct thus the three staff were suspended. The office of the Bengaluru Police Commissioner has also mentioned that additional disciplinary action shall be taken according to the results of the internal investigation.
