New Jersey: In Carteret, New Jersey, a sad event happened on Friday where a Punjabi girl with the name Jasvir Kaur, aged 20 years from Nurmahal Jalandhar, Punjab, was shot dead. Her cousin, Gagandeep Kaur, an assistant coach who was residing with her, was seriously injured. The perpetrator was a teenager, Gaurav Singh Gill, a man from Punjab who was at least 19 years old, and he shot at the woman.
The Consulate General of India in New York, responding to the shooting of Jasvir Kaur and the other woman on Roosevelt Ave, Carteret, New Jersey, on the social media X, which was earlier known as Twitter on June 14, said that it was deeply saddened to learn the tragic death of Ms. Jasvir Kaur and the injuries to Ms. Gagandeep Kaur following a shooting incident and expressed the condolences of the Consulate.
It was reported that the police detained Punjabi 23-year-old Gill, a resident of the Hussainpur village in the Jalandhar district, on the charges of murder and attempted murder. It is now clear that Gaurav and Gagandeep were acquaintances and had known each other since they both used to take classes for IELTS coaching at Jalandhar.
From law enforcement reports by the Middlesex County prosecutor’s office, the accused forced entry into the victim’s house in New Jersey and fired shots at him. Both victims were quickly taken by air to other nearby medical facilities following the ordeal. Unfortunately, the victim ultimately died due to her injuries. The reason for the crime committed still has not been reported, and the police have not provided any information about the nature of the interaction that Gill had with the two women.
Jasvir worked at the regional Amazon fulfillment center in Carteret. During the shooting incident, her husband, who is a truck driver, was not at home; he was out of town. This tragedy has received every society’s indignation, and people worldwide have mourned this tragedy while consoling the affected families.
This led to police mobilizing a six-hour search, which later ended with him being arrested by the police. This case brings out the sad reality of violence in the lives of Indians residing in foreign countries and leads to much debate and concerns regarding the concerns of immigrant’s trust in safety and security in the United States.
