Pune: The sad event took place in Mundhwa of Pune city on Friday, where one food delivery agent was knocked down by an Audi car. The injured man was known by the name of Rauf Shaikh, and he later died from injuries inflicted by the collision. The driver of the Audi tried to escape the scene, as claimed by the police reports, but was quickly arrested.
The series of events leading to the tragedy began around 1:35 a.m. The accused, 34-year-old Ayush Tayal, initially hit a two-wheeler, which injured three persons. After that, Tayal repeatedly ticked off the accelerator and hit Rauf Shaikh’s motorcycle from behind. The attack inflicted serious damage on Shaikh, the victim, who was immediately taken to the nearest hospital. Regrettably, however, following his admittance into the hospital, he was declared dead on arrival.
One senior police officer added: ‘The first shattering impact with the two-wheeler added confusion to the circumstances’. Eyewitnesses and CCTV also recorded events before the mishap; the police managed to apprehend the suspect in the incident. Tayal managed to escape from the scene, but the CCTV cameras captured his car, and he was arrested at his house in the Hadapsar area.
The police have lodged a case against Tayal for multiple provisions of the IPC for dangerous driving and causing death by negligence. More specifically, the charges relate to BNS Sections 105, 281, 125 (a), 132, 119, 177 and 184, as cited at Mundhwa Police Station. The members of the community have talked about road safety and reckless driving in comparison to the incident, so they have urged the local authorities to look at traffic infringement and actions that should be taken to avoid future catastrophes.
