Raipur: A police team raided the home of history-sheeter Ravi Sahu of Raipur Kotwali on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. Twenty Crime Branch personnel surrounded Ravi’s house and took action. Ravi was sleeping at the time, but managed to escape through a back door. Police apprehended his accomplice, Mohammad Rafiq, on the spot. During a search, betting papers and Rs 1.5 lakh in cash were recovered from his bag. Liquor and marijuana were also found in the house, which have been confiscated.
According to information received, Ravi Sahu has 79 cases registered against him so far. These include several serious crimes, including murder, stabbing, and smuggling. He has also been externed from the district several times. After being released from jail, he resumed smuggling marijuana and alcohol and operating gambling and betting rackets, according to information received from the Crime Branch.
The team arrived at the homes of history-sheeters Ravi Sahu and Mukesh Gupta, alias Baniya, at midnight. Ravi was present at home, but fled via the roof upon learning of the raid. His accomplice was apprehended on the spot. Mukesh Gupta, however, was not found at home. He has been on the run for the past month. Police teams are searching for him. The Kotwali police continued their investigation into the case until late at night. Several other individuals were also detained and are being questioned.
