In Assam, nine additional arrests have been made for allegedly sharing hateful and inflammatory posts on social media following a Monday terror attack near the Red Fort in New Delhi, which claimed at least 10 lives during the commuter rush. Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Thursday morning via X that a total of 15 people have been arrested statewide.

According to the Chief Minister, after six people were arrested on Tuesday, further overnight operations resulted in the arrests of individuals from various districts related to suo motu cases registered by the police. Those arrested are accused of publishing posts deemed hateful and likely to cause harm after the incident.

Earlier on Tuesday, a retired government school principal was arrested from the Cachar district for allegedly making a politically motivated comment regarding the blast. The person was subsequently released after receiving a notice in line with procedures, per Cachar Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das.

CM Sarma said Assam Police will act against anyone looking to glorify violence or misinformation due to such incidents. Authorities have reassured that social media is not a place to incite fear, hatred or communal tensions.
