The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested a Nigerian woman on charges of smuggling prohibited drugs with a value of about 5 crore rupees as they were travelling in a bus in Delhi to Mumbai. As a DRI official said, the woman was carrying a massive consignment of narcotics as she cunningly hid it in packets of food and tetra packs of juices.

Based on certain inputs of intelligence, a group of anti-smuggling personnel of the DRI tracked the bus through a 50km stretch as it entered Mumbai. It wasn’t until early Thursday that the bus was intercepted. During the check, DRI officers seized 2.56 kg of methamphetamine and 584 grams of ecstasy tablets that are extremely desired during rave gatherings since they act as stimulants. The amount of contraband was estimated at a value of about Rs 5 crore in the illegal market when taken together.

The targeted client of the drugs was also arrested in a follow-up operation, and this forms a massive breakthrough in the current quest to curb the distribution of narcotics. The drugs were neatly concealed in bundles of oats and even juice tetra packs, and this is why detecting them was even difficult.

The woman is Nigerian, and she has been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and an investigation is still going on to trace the bigger network involved in this smuggling bid. According to the authorities, both the carriers and the receivers were involved in a complex exercise allegedly aimed at crossing state lines and distributing drugs in the process that could be used in parties and other events. DRI has once again declared its focus to work hard to intercept narcotics and curb illegal trade, which causes addiction and other security threats to society.
