In a tragic incident apparently rooted in a suspected love affair, an 18-year-old youth was allegedly shot dead by the father of the girl, who was allegedly being seen by the dead youth. The incident took place late Monday night in Khedahelu village of Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah district.
Lavkush was from neighbouring Auraiya district and was staying at his sister’s home in Khedahelu. The youth allegedly wanted to meet the girl when the incident happened, said Chaubiya police station SHO Vipin Kumar.
The initial police investigation had said that Lavkush was trying to enter the girl’s house at midnight when a shot rang out. When the sound was heard, locals rushed to the place where Lavkush was lying in a pool of blood, near the girl’s father, Anil Kumar’s residence. Fatal injuries forced him to die at the scene.
Police arrested Anil Kumar and recovered a weapon from his possession after Lavkush’s family lodged a complaint against him for using it in the shooting. SHO Vipin Kumar, however, stated that the accused has been taken into custody and the matter is being investigated further.
After the legal proceedings finished, the body of the deceased was sent for postmortem.
The local community is rocked by outrage and shock over how the victim was killed in the incident. Police have dispatched men to the area to prevent anything amiss.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are not ruling out more arrests and developments. It brings out the case of continuing challenges of social taboos and personal conflict, particularly in rural India.
