New Delhi: A daring robbery unfolded in Chandni Chowk as culprits, brandishing a toy gun, looted ₹60 lakh from an employee of a watch firm. The incident occurred on Thursday evening, prompting the victim to file an FIR with the local police.
The victim, Shyam Gupta, a resident of Rohini known for his wholesale watch business, was present at the office of a watch firm located on the second floor of another establishment. At around 5 PM, a man named Kamlesh arrived to make a payment, and the two began reconciling accounts.
The situation took a sinister turn when, at approximately 5:30 PM, a person identified as Kamlesh asked Shyam to bring essential documents, using it as a pretext to call his accomplice. Surveillance footage from the office’s CCTV cameras revealed the second individual extracting a toy gun and a knife from a bag, subsequently restraining both Shyam and Kamlesh.
During the harrowing incident, the robbers confiscated a bag filled with currency notes. Following their escape, the assailants took the victims’ phones and issued threats of violence if they raised an alarm. Approximately half an hour later, after the criminals fled the scene, Shyam and Kamlesh reported the incident to nearby shopkeepers.
The case has prompted the local police to register an FIR under the robbery section, with an investigation already underway. Special staff teams, in addition to the local police, are collaborating to trace the escape route of the criminals using CCTV footage.
Among the arrested suspects is Aakash, a former employee of a jewelry firm, who played a key role in orchestrating the entire conspiracy. The police have recovered stolen items, including gold biscuits valued at fifty lakh rupees, highlighting the successful outcome of their swift action.
This incident underscores the need for enhanced security measures in commercial areas and emphasizes the importance of vigilance in the face of potential criminal threats.
