In one of the most recent and shocking domestic violence cases witnessed in the Davangere district of Karnataka, a husband is reported to have bitten off a part of his wife’s nose after a heated confrontation over repayment of loan amounts due. The local police confirmed the incident that took place in Mantaraghatta village on Friday.
Vidhya, who happens to be the victim, is recuperating in a hospital in Shivamogga and is reported to be relatively alright. Vidhya, as officials said, had borrowed a loan against which her husband, Vijay, had acted as security. With their lenders mounting pressure because payments were not made on time, the couple seems to have developed strained relationships as they are reported to have been arguing most of the time.
In one such quarrel, Vijay is also said to have gone berserk and attacked Vidhya physically. He surprises the world with a brutal move to bite off a piece of her nose, leaving her with serious injuries and heavy bleeding. Vidhya was first sent to Channagiri government hospital and then to Shivamogga, where she became eligible to get higher-quality treatment. An FIR has already been made against Vijay, and the matter is under investigation.
In a similar, though unrelated, event in a different but equally distressing way, a third man tried to burn down the house of a family member, all due to financial disagreements that the two people had had over a very long period. The CCTV footage of the act depicts that an accused, Venkataramani, comes to the premises with a bottle suspected to be having petrol. He is shown to pour the flammable liquid on the entrance, one of the windows and the footwear stand and set the area ablaze. Luckily, both the occupants of the house came out unscathed, and Venkataramani would have barely escaped the blaze as well.
Police claim that the cause is from a 5 lakh loan Venkataramani claims to have taken to a relative, Parvati, to fund her daughter seven to eight years ago. The money could not be reclaimed, and this caused bitterness, thus the arson.
